We commemorate Juneteenth, when on June 19, 1865, when enslaved peoples in Texas finally gained their freedom. We remember them. We honor their memory. We celebrate freedom for all.

The Peoria ROE was excited to co-host the summer retreat of the Emerging Workforce Alliance (EWA). The EWA supports districts with PaCE framework implementation which prepares students in 6th-12th grades for financial aid and literacy, career exploration and development, and post secondary education, exploration, preparation, and selection. We had a dynamic keynote presented by the administration of the Vienna School District who has done remarkable work in 3 years. The panel in the picture below shows community members from the business world who shared insights from the private sector with educators. This panel included CEFCU, Accenture Technology, Carle Health, and River City Construction.

Here are some pictures of the end of the year celebration at Norwood Primary School. Trudy Schaffner, our Director of Truancy and McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program, worked with Norwood this semester on a school-wide multi-tier intervention to absenteeism.
From January through May, there was a monthly class drawing for students who achieved 90% or better for attendance. Those names were then put into a year end drawing for a $50 gas/grocery card for their families. Students who were referred to Project Target were monitored weekly, and small incentives were earned for each week of perfect attendance.
Three students at Norwood Primary had perfect attendance. They were awarded certificates and a McDonald's gift card. Each of the students who had been referred to Project Target that achieved 90% or higher attendance also received an award certificate, and everyone in the school who achieved 90% or higher for the last quarter enjoyed an ice cream or popsicle treat. It was a great day to award these student's hard work and achievement in attendance!

@PeoriaROE48 was excited to be at Quest High School on Friday! Educators ended a year-long professional development centered on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. Staff engaged in professional learning about embedding equitable practices into the classroom and school community and created action plans for implementation based on the year long professional development. It has been a pleasure working with the Quest staff during the 2022 - 2023 school year.
