Affinity Groups Launch to Support Educators of Color
ISBE partnered with ROE 51, Teach Plus Illinois, and the Golden Apple Foundation to launch affinity groups to boost retention for teachers of color.

ROE 48 had a great day at Quest! Faculty and staff participated in a “Quest Amazing Race” and engaged in conversations about identity, culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy, and borderlands in education.

Another great day at Career Spark where area 8th grade students came to the Civic Center to explore career opportunities.





The @PeoriaROE48 Spotlight Educator for October is Janelle Duncan! Janelle is a kindergarten teacher at @Monroe70.
Janelle was nominated to be the @PeoriaROE48 Spotlight Educator by a community member who stated that Janelle "goes above and beyond to meet the needs of all of her students. She utilizes a wide range of instructional strategies that are well-suited to the content being learned and provides explanations and feedback that furthers student learning. The culture of Janelle’s kindergarten class is conducive to student learning and development. She helps students develop skills to work purposefully and cooperatively in groups and independently. Janelle also goes above and beyond to support other teachers and support staff in the building. She has spent lots of time both during the school day and also outside of the school day working with them. Janelle is a true team player and is always willing to do whatever is best for the school!' Janelle was excited to be nominated.
When asked about being an educator, she replied, "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." ~Confucius Congratulations, Janelle! Thank you for all you do for teaching and student learning.

There's still time to sign up for the Behavior Threat Assessment Team training we are conducting with ROE 53 on October 18, 2022 at Five Points Washington from 8:30am-3:30pm. Please bring your own lunch.
The training will focus on determining whether a person who makes a threat is an actual threat of committing violence, developing a plan of services to prevent a person from moving along the continuum of violence, and legal issues with information sharing.
