License Renewal Information from ISBE
Educators will receive a reminder email from ISBE when it is time to renew their license. To renew, educators can log into their ELIS account starting April 1 of the year their license expires. Educators should renew by June 30th.
If you are due to renew your license this year but you do not have the RENEWAL option in your ELIS account, make sure that all professional development hours and/or Administrator Academies are entered. If you have not been employed in an Illinois public school for 50% or more of full-time equivalency in a school year, you must update your Employment Status from “active” to “exempt/retired/or part-time” for the appropriate semesters for the renewal cycle. You can find the steps to change your employment status here: https://www.isbe.net/Documents/How-to-Update-PD-Employment-Status.pdf.
You will not be able to renew until all PD/AA requirements are met.
Reminder that ELIS works best with Google Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge. Do not use Safari as it is not compatible.
The resources are shared below to provide educators with the information needed to become a licensed teacher in the state of Illinois, as well as opportunities for experienced teachers to expand his or her qualifications.
