Starting Spring 2025, the Illinois State Board of Education will use the ACT exam rather than the SAT. According to Peter Hancock (2024), both are standardized tests that measure students’ proficiency in core subjects such as English language arts and math. Both are also commonly used for college admissions as well as scholarship applications. Hancock continues that Illinois, however, also uses them as part of the battery of tests schools administer each year to meet federal mandates under the Every Student Succeeds Act. The switch from the SAT to the ACT came about through ISBE’s routine bidding process where the ACT’s contract was finalized. Therefore, all junior students must complete the ACT Test at their home high school as a graduation requirement.
Several sites offer test information and review. First and foremost, the https://www.act.org/ website provides links to information on the ACT, registration, test prep, what to bring on testing days, how to find and read your scores, as well as how to request testing fee waivers.
Peoria Regional Learning Center home schools will be testing in April, with finalized dates and times coming soon.
